Monkey Baa at APAM 2026 – Perth
This week, the leadership team travelled to Perth for the Australian Performing Arts Market, known as APAM.
Kevin, Eva and our new General Manager Noel joined presenters and producers from across Australia and around the world for a full and productive week.
APAM brings together international presenters and Australian producing companies to collaborate, exchange ideas and explore touring opportunities. It is an important gathering point for our sector and a space where future partnerships begin.
A number of years ago, Monkey Baa toured to the United States on five separate occasions. Those tours helped establish international relationships that still matter today.
Our current focus is on smaller, carefully targeted opportunities in Asia.
We already have a confirmed tour to Hong Kong for Where is the Green Sheep? and used APAM to share the production with other potential partners in the region. The conversations were encouraging and we are now following up on several promising possibilities.
Beyond the pitching, the week was about connection. Reconnecting with long-time colleagues. Meeting new presenters who share our belief in theatre for young people. Spending time in thoughtful discussion about practice, access and placing children at the heart of our work.
Kevin reflected on the week:
“While our focus remains firmly on reaching and engaging young people across Australia, sharing our work internationally builds friendships across countries and cultures. It strengthens our practice and extends the life of the stories we create.”
Eva added:
“Artistically, it was a privilege to spend time with like-minded artists from around the world. We share a deep belief in placing children at the heart of theatre-making. These conversations matter. They shape how we create and why we create.”
We return energised and grateful. There is strong momentum in our international conversations, particularly in Asia, and we look forward to sharing more as plans take shape.
