Co-creating Where is the Green Sheep? with Bankstown West Public School

We believe theatre for young people should be made with young people. That’s why our ongoing partnership with Bankstown West Public School means so much to us.

Earlier this year, students from the school’s Youth Advisory Council lent their voices (and plenty of creativity) to our stage adaptation of Where is the Green Sheep?. The narration, recorded by the students themselves, is now part of every performance of the show.

Our Social Impact and Engagement Producer, Alex, kicked things off with a series of drama workshops at the school. Through games, storytelling and character play, students explored Mem Fox and Judy Horacek’s world of sheep and discovered how their voices could bring it to life.

Eva Di Cesare, writer and director of Where is the Green Sheep?, worked directly with the students to shape and rehearse the narration. Sound designer Zac Saric joined us onsite to record and edit their performances, which were then seamlessly woven into the show.

This isn’t the first time our Youth Advisory Council at Bankstown West has helped shape a Monkey Baa production. They’ve previously contributed to Possum Magic, Edward the Emu and are also part of the creative development of The Duck and the Darklings. Their ideas, energy and perspectives continue to inspire the way we make theatre.

We’re so proud of this collaboration and of every student who took part. Their voices don’t just narrate the story. They are the story.
