2025 Annual Report
We are proud to share the Monkey Baa 2025 Annual Report, a year of consolidation, challenges and remarkable achievements.
Throughout 2025, Monkey Baa delivered a diverse program of work that reached young people across a wide range of ages and cultural backgrounds. Productions including the premiere of Where is the Green Sheep?, the national tour of Josephine Wants to Dance, the regional tour of Yong, and Detention connected with audiences nationwide, reinforcing the company’s belief in the importance of theatre for young people.
Artistic Director Eva Di Cesare said “Together, these four productions reflect our belief that theatre for young people matters deeply in the present, offering space for joy, reflection, and connection right now.”
In 2025, Monkey Baa reached 54,448 audience members in 2025, delivering 218 performances across 49 communities. For many attendees, this marked their first experience of live theatre.
Executive Director Kevin du Preez emphasised the importance of access in shaping the company’s direction “Every performance is an opportunity to reach a young person who may be experiencing theatre for the very first time. Expanding access is at the heart of what we do, and it continues to guide how and where we work”.
The year also saw the establishment of two new donor initiatives, the Brisbane Memory Makers and the Theatre Unlimited Donor Circle, strengthening the company’s ability to remove barriers to participation.
Chair of the Board Judith McLean highlighted the broader significance of the company’s work“At its core, this work is about ensuring that all young people have the opportunity to engage with culture and creativity. Theatre plays a vital role in shaping how children understand themselves and the world around them”.
Through its ongoing work, Monkey Baa remains committed to ensuring that geography and circumstance are not barriers to participation, bringing live performance to communities across the country.
The company expressed its deep gratitude to the artists, staff, presenters and supporters who contributed to the success of the year.
