The Story
The Prospectors is the delightfully poignant story of two miners, one an experienced American miner called Stan; the other a 'new chum' Australian prospector called Frank.
Set in the mid-nineteenth Century, this play is about life in the goldfields and the Eureka Stockade. This play explores not only an important time in Australian history but also the themes of Mateship, Gold, Identity and Democracy and the courage it takes to follow one's own heart even if it means going against the grain of your contemporaries or peers.
The Prospectors is an action packed play using humour, song, and dance and features the unique vernacular that existed on the Victorian goldfields in the nineteenth century.
The Tour
The Prospectors opened on 2nd August 2005 at Wharf 2 as part of the Sydney Theatre Company's Education Program.
The production then toured to regional centres and smaller communities throughout NSW. The company presented theatre workshops along with the production. These workshops proved highly successful for all who participated.
The Prospectors played to 8,500 young people, teachers and families throughout metropolitan and regional NSW.
